The tournament, set to take place from 29 March to 5 April in Ciutadella, continues to gain sporting and institutional momentum, positioning itself as a strategic asset for the island
The Open Menorca ATP Challenger 100 officially presented its 2026 edition this Tuesday at Club Tenis Ciutadella, confirming its steady progress within the ATP Challenger Tour and its emergence as one of the most promising sporting projects in the Balearic Islands. Scheduled from 29 March to 5 April, the event reinforces its role as a driver of sporting, economic and territorial impact.
The presentation brought together a broad representation of institutional, sporting and organisational stakeholders, underlining the strong support behind the tournament in its second edition.
Among those in attendance were Ana Vilafranca, president of Club Tenis Ciutadella; María Jesús Bagur, mayor of Ciutadella; Eladi Huertas, manager of the Balearic Sports Foundation; Antonio Poveda, tournament director; Javier Soler, sporting director of the Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET); Toni Capó, CEO of BioSport Menorca; and Adolfo Vilafranca, president of the Menorca Island Council.
During the event, the tournament’s key assets were unveiled, including the official trophy, technical equipment and merchandising, reflecting the organisational growth of an event that continues to raise its standards within the circuit.
Institutional backing and territorial projection
From an institutional perspective, Ciutadella mayor María Jesús Bagur highlighted the tournament’s international visibility: “The Open Menorca ATP Challenger 100 is an excellent opportunity to showcase Ciutadella and Menorca to the world,” she said, also emphasising the involvement of the local business community.
Representing the regional administration, Eladi Huertas, manager of the Balearic Sports Foundation, stressed the structural impact of the event: “The Menorca Open reinforces the Balearic Islands’ commitment to elite sport. Competitions of this kind not only raise sporting standards but also contribute to promoting the territory through sport.”
Adolfo Vilafranca, president of the Menorca Island Council, pointed to the tournament’s strategic value: “It is a clear example of how sport can act as a driver of territorial development, creating economic and social opportunities while projecting the island internationally.”
Competitive leap and tournament development
On the sporting side, the Open Menorca ATP Challenger 100 strengthens its appeal with a high-level main draw featuring a mix of established players and emerging talent.
Among the standout names are France’s Valentin Royer, Austria’s Sebastian Ofner, Italy’s Giulio Zeppieri and Spain’s Roberto Carballés Baena, alongside rising prospects such as Martín Landaluce and regular Challenger Tour players including Norbert Gombos, Zdenek Kolar and Daniel Rincón, ensuring a highly competitive field.
Tournament director Antonio Poveda also highlighted the overall quality of the draw, which includes players with a combined total of 83 ATP Tour and Challenger titles, as well as junior Grand Slam champions and top-ranked competitors.
This sporting progress is matched by a commitment to innovation, with the introduction of ELC Live technology, making Menorca the only Challenger 100 event in Europe to feature this system.
From the Spanish Tennis Federation, sporting director Javier Soler underlined the tournament’s development within the national ecosystem: “Many aim to host a Challenger 100, but not all succeed. Menorca has proven its capability and is now in a strong position to keep growing within the circuit.”
A growth model rooted in the local ecosystem
The project, led by BioSport Menorca, is built on a model that combines sport, economy and territory. CEO Toni Capó emphasised that the tournament “aims to establish itself as a permanent fixture on the ATP Challenger Tour and as a strategic asset for the island”, highlighting the involvement of more than 40 local companies.
The event also expands beyond competition, incorporating experiences linked to gastronomy, live music and parallel activities, reinforcing its positioning as a comprehensive sporting event.
Menorca on the international tennis map
With its second edition, the Open Menorca ATP Challenger 100 strengthens its role as an international showcase for the island and as a driver of local development.
For one week, Club Tenis Ciutadella will once again become the centre of professional tennis, as the tournament continues to grow within the ATP Challenger Tour and aims to establish Menorca as a recognised host destination on the international calendar.
