Open Menorca 2025: Record figures and clay-court emotion

The Open Menorca ATP Challenger 100 (31 March – 6 April) proved to be a landmark event for the island, combining historical spirit, local passion and unforgettable tennis.
In the spring of 2025, Ciutadella turned into a tennis stage. From 31 March to 6 April, Club Tenis Ciutadella hosted the first edition of the Open Menorca ATP Challenger 100, a milestone for the island on the professional circuit. With record-breaking sporting and emotional figures, the tournament marked a turning point in Menorca’s sporting history.

Numbers that tell the story
The impact of the tournament extended well beyond the baseline. These figures offer a snapshot of its reach:
- TV views: 705,390
- Estimated audience: 1,763,475
- News mentions: 150
- Website pageviews: 23,610
- Published articles: 20
- Social media posts: 611
- Impressions: 1,610,000
- Engagements: 25,470
These stats confirm its strong national and international footprint, driven by digital engagement, media coverage, and an ever-growing online community.
One of the major highlights was its live broadcast. Matches were streamed daily via ATP Challenger TV, with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the singles final also aired on Marca TV, Tennis Channel, Eurosport and Eurosport Max, as well as RTVE Play and Teledeporte, where the final was shown free-to-air. This broad coverage brought the Menorca experience to audiences worldwide and strengthened the tournament’s global profile.
Shocks, highlights and heroes
The singles draw brought drama from the start. Former World No. 3 and third seed Marin Čilić, and top seed Billy Harris of Great Britain, were knocked out early. Veteran Spaniard Albert Ramos-Viñolas stunned Harris with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win, while rising Peruvian star Ignacio Buse dismantled Čilić 6-2, 6-1.
In the quarters, Pol Martín Tiffón produced a stirring comeback against fellow Spaniard Carlos Taberner, recovering from a set down to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Meanwhile, seventh seed Vilius Gaubas upset second seed Sebastian Ofner 7-6(2), 6-2, setting the tone for his title run.
The final saw Gaubas face home favourite Martín Tiffón on centre court. Despite the local support, the Lithuanian dominated, winning 6-0, 6-4 to lift the title and break into the ATP Top 150 for the first time.
In doubles, the unlikely pairing of Benjamin Hassan (Lebanon) and Sebastian Ofner (Austria) defeated Italian wildcard duo Andrea and Matteo Vavassori 7-5, 6-3.

More than a tournament: a menorcan celebration
The week’s early sessions were marked by shifting weather — wind and rain causing a few delays — but the finals played out under brilliant blue skies.
The response from the local crowd was electric: packed stands, a welcoming atmosphere and whole families joining the action. As tournament director Edi Bentivegna noted: “The locals really embraced the event — you can tell they love being part of it.”
Beyond the courts, the tournament offered a taste of Menorca, with local produce tastings — including cheese, sobrasada and cured meats — reinforcing the event’s connection to island culture.
Tradition meets top-level sport
This was no random choice of venue. Years of planning, in collaboration with the Consell Insular de Menorca, AETIB and the Ajuntament de Ciutadella, ensured the tournament landed in Week 14 of the ATP calendar, a perfect slot to kick off the clay season.
Ciutadella rose to the occasion, showing its ability to host international events. With historic streets, a proud community and its deep-rooted equestrian heritage, it now adds elite tennis to the mix.
Looking ahead
It wasn’t just the stats that made an impact. The tournament succeeded in three key areas: media and streaming visibility, content generation, and on-court storylines, from early upsets to Gaubas’ breakthrough and Martín Tiffón’s local dream.
With a strong foundation, professional organisation and enthusiastic support, the Open Menorca ATP Challenger 100 is set to return in 2026, bigger, bolder and even more connected to the spirit of the island.
Menorca in motion: culture and competition in harmony
If Sant Joan recalls Menorca’s medieval soul -horses, heritage and community-, the Open Menorca ATP Challenger 100 is its modern counterpoint: a celebration of rising talent, international sport and forward-looking ambition.
From the Plaça des Born to the red clay of Club Tenis Ciutadella, the island proves it can host both tradition and transformation, all with the same passion.
