Open Menorca ATP Challenger 100: a historic event for tennis and the island

The Open Menorca ATP Challenger 100 will bring together top-ranked tennis stars and rising talents from 30 March to 6 April at the Club Tenis Ciutadella.
The tournament is now a reality. It will be held from 30 March to 6 April 2025 on the clay courts of Club Tenis Ciutadella, featuring a mix of experienced players and young talents looking to make their mark on the ATP circuit.
The event was officially presented at a ceremony held at Club Tenis Ciutadella, attended by prominent institutional and sporting figures, reinforcing the strong support for this prestigious tournament.
Ana Vilafranca, president of Club Tenis Ciutadella, highlighted the significance of hosting an event of this calibre: “It is a privilege for Club Tenis Ciutadella to host an event of this level. The Open Menorca ATP Challenger 100 strengthens our commitment to professional tennis and offers the opportunity to enjoy high-quality tennis at our facilities.”
Strong institutional and sporting support
The mayor of Ciutadella, Llorenç Ferrer, underlined the historic significance of this tournament for Menorca: “It is an honour for Ciutadella to become one of the few cities in Spain to host an international tennis tournament of this level. This event will put Menorca on the sporting map and help boost the local economy through sports tourism.”
Javier Soler, sports director of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET), also emphasised the importance of institutional backing for the tournament: “RFET supported Menorca’s bid to secure a place in such a competitive calendar as the ATP Challenger Tour. We are confident it will be a great success both in terms of organisation and sporting performance, and it will open the door for Menorca to continue hosting ATP tournaments in the future.”
The tournament director, Edi Bentivegna, praised the hard work done by the organisers to bring a Category 100 tournament to Menorca in its first year: “The ATP has shown confidence in Menorca, its promoters and its organisational ability. The level of players taking part proves that this tournament is here to stay.”
Top international and national players in the main draw
The Open Menorca ATP Challenger 100 will feature a strong lineup of individual players, including:
- Marin Čilić (21 ATP titles, including the 2014 US Open and the 2016 Cincinnati Masters 1000).
- Borna Coric (3 ATP titles, including the 2022 Cincinnati Masters 1000 and the 2018 Halle ATP 500).
- Carlos Taberner (7 Challenger titles on clay).
- Albert Ramos Viñolas (Monte Carlo Masters 1000 finalist and 4 ATP titles).
- Daniel Rincón (2021 US Open junior champion).
- Javier Barranco (clay court specialist with several Challenger doubles titles).
In the doubles category, local player Sergio Martos will team up with young talent Nikita Kaliyanda.

Toni Capó, director of Biosport Menorca, highlighted the strategic importance of this event for Menorca: “The Open Menorca ATP Challenger 100 strengthens Menorca’s position as a sports and tourism destination. The tournament has also received the backing of the Consell Insular de Menorca. Its president, Adolfo Vilafranca, emphasised the positive impact of the event: “This tournament reinforces our presence in the international sporting calendar and showcases Menorca’s potential to host high-quality sporting events. The infrastructure improvements required to host such international events will benefit the local community in the long term.”
